Nigeria: Police Arrest Fake Officer Over Fraud

A 30-year-old woman, Yemisi Fagbemi alleged to have paraded herself as a police Inspector has been arrested by Kwara State Police Command for impersonating police officer.

Fagbemi, an indigene of Kabba, in Kogi state, but resident of Oja-Iya area, Ilorin was alleged to have duped unsuspecting electronic dealer of one 37 inch Plasma TV, laptop, refrigerator among others with promise to pay instalmentally.

The suspect was arrested on Jan. 30 in a complete police uniform with Inspector rank by one Woman/Insp. Medina Garba, attached to the state Headquarters.

While speaking with journalists, the suspect however disclosed that she was dismissed from the police in 2011, when a suspect involved in a murder case escaped from her.

She said: “I am not a fake police officer. I joined the force in 2000 as a constable but later went for cadet inspector course in 2006.

“When I was a constable, I served at both Ijagbo and Offa divisions. I was dismissed in 2011 when a suspect involved in a murder case escaped from my custody.”

Yemisi added that she wore a police uniform on the day of her arrest with a view to seeing a senior police officer who wanted to assist her.

Confirming the arrest, the Police spokesperson in the state, Ezekiel Dabo, said that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
