Chelsea 1 Barcelona 0: Drog takes the lead! Blues battle to hold out hope for Nou Camp

Chelsea grabbed a crucial one-goal advantage over European Champions Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final thanks to Didier Drogba’s goal in injury time at the end of the first half.

Drogba struck with the Blues’ only attempt on target when Frank Lampard nicked the ball off Lionel Messi before hitting a superb pass to release Ramires, who broke clear before squaring to Drogba. Victor Valdes in the Barca goal could not keep out the striker’s first time shot.

Chelsea hung on to clinch victory in the semi-final first leg despite conceding vast amounts of possession to the Catalan giants.

Barca had all of the game’s other chances on goal. Alexis Sanchez hit the crossbar in the eighth minute after going clean through while Cesc Fabregas saw a shot cleared off the line by Ashley Cole in the 42nd minute.

Sanchez then poked wide from six yards with only Cech to beat after 56 minutes, while Carles Puyol saw his header well saved by Petr Cech late in the second half. Then, in injury time, substitute Pedro curled a fine effort against the post.
