The authorities of Federal Government College (FGC), Kano, have confirmed to reporters that two of its students were killed in an attack yesterday by unknown gunmen. Four others were also injured, the school said today.
It said contrary to the media report that gunmen attacked the school Monday evening, the attack took place in a shopping area at ‘Yar Akwa area of Na’ibawa Quareters.
It was gathered that the killings might be as a result of robbery attack carried out around the area.
The Police said the attack took place in “Yar Akwa –Lai Moshalashi” an area with lock up shops in the Naibawa quarters of the city.
According to the school authority, the affected students were day students and were attacked after they left the school around 6.00pm.
According to Mrs Elizabeth Kasu, who is the school’s Vice-Principal in charge of Administration, the students, who were all in their final year, had been “de-boarded” in preparation for their final examinations.
The bodies of the slain students and the injured have been moved to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.
She explained that the school Management had visited Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) where corpses of the two students
were deposited in the mortuary while the other students who sustained injuries in the attack were receiving treatment in at emergency ward of the hospital.
The Nigeria police in Abuja had earlier issued a statement denying that any form of attack happened in the school. Also last night, the National Emergency Management Agency denied the attacks and killings.
