PROFILE: Ghana’s New President, John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama, who as just been sworn in today, July 24, 2012 as the new President of Ghana, is 54 years.

He was born on 29 November 1958.

John Dramani Mahama is the fourth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He succeeded John Atta Mills to the presidency following Mills’ death on 24 July, 2012.

Prior to becoming president, he was a communication expert, historian, writer, Member of Parliament, Minister of State, and Vice-President of Ghana.

Born in Damango, located in the Northern Region of Ghana, his father Mr. Emmanuel Adama Mahama, was the first Member of Parliament for the West Gonja Constituency and the first Regional Commissioner of the Northern Region during Ghana’s First Republic.

Upon the successful completion of that programme, Mr. Mahama studied for additional qualification in Social Psychology at the Institute of Social Sciences in Moscow.

After completing his education, Mr. Mahama returned to Ghana and, from 1991 to 1996, he worked as the Information, Culture and Research Officer at the Embassy of Japan in Accra.

From there he moved to the nongovernmental agency (NGO) PLAN International’s Ghana Country Office, where he worked as International Relations, Sponsorship Communications and Grants Manager.

    Ghanians must appreciate the real facts and contribution of their presidents when they are alive no matter their political affiliation. Former and Late prez Mills’ death must serve as a unifier in the upcoming elrctions. my condolences to Prez Mills. May the good lord give you a resting place in His abode

    I received with great shock the news of the death of president Evans Atta Mills. He has been a distiguished statesman as well as an outstanding scholar. We shall greatly miss him. However, I wish President Mahama Dramani a good stay in office.
