Boy Survives Mother’s Attempt To Cut Him In Two

Justice An 11-year-old boy, who was stabbed by his depressed mother last week, is expected to be discharged from hospital today following improvement in his condition, Kano State police command said.

The boy was admitted at the hospital last week Saturday, after his mother, Joy Akule, 28, had attempted to divide him into two in an effort to settle the child’s custody issue with his father, police said.

Police added that the victim was rushed to the hospital with exposed intestines.

The lady who hails from Katsina-Ala in Benue state told journalists at Kano state Police headquarters that she transferred the aggression she had for her ex-husband to the innocent child.

“I wanted to kill him to bury the memory of his father because each time I see him, he reminds me of his father’s wickedness to me,” she said.

Kano state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, told newsmen that Joy on 21 July at Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano, used a knife and stabbed her only son on his stomach, bursting the intestines following a had misunderstanding with her husband, Mr. Thomas Kationa.

Responding to questions from newsmen, Miss Joy disclosed that had initial intent was not to kill the boy, but to cut him into two and share with his father.

She said her relationship with the boy’s father went bitter after he allegedly stopped taking care of the child. “He would not take care of him and even when I sent money for that purpose, he would not do,” she said.

She further narrated that when she confronted Mr. Kationa over the issue and sought for custody of the boy, he refused to grant it.

“Because he didn’t want to take care of the boy and will not let me go with him, I decided to cut him into two so that he could take half and I would take half,” she explained.

The mother confessed to using a sharp knife to cut open the boy’s lower abdomen. “I have since regretted my action,” she admitted, adding “I thought it (dividing the child) was going to be easy.”

Joy has been arrested and would be charged to court for attempted homicide after investigations.
