A picture has been circulating showing a collapsed building claimed to be a theater in the U.S. broken into two pieces just prior to showing the controversial anti-Islam film. Is there any truth to this story?
The story and the photo are not real.
The photo has been circulating with the following text:
“…an earthquake hit the cinema of the abusing movie to Prophet Mohammed. The whole cinema is smashed.”
Various descriptions of the photo go into more detail, such as this one:
A picture of a cinema in America that was going to play the film of the Prophet Sep 18 at noon. An earthquake hit that area that caused the building into two pieces. The Americans are so shocked at the miracle that they didn’t allow full media coverage on the topic and that’s why you didn’t hear about it on the news today! The Prophet has risen to fight his battle!
Let’s take a look at the photo and the story to see if there is any truth to this account.
The photo
The photograph being circulated was actually taken from a news story in 2010 about an earthquake in Chile. The actual photo’s caption reads:
Residents look at a collapsed building in Concepcion, Chile, Saturday Feb. 27, 2010 after an 8.8-magnitude struck central Chile. The epicenter was 70 miles (115 kilometers) from Concepcion, Chile’s second-largest city.
It should be noted that most people in America did not know about the anti-Islam movie until the protest began in Libya and other countries. Neither was it shown in any American movie theater. Those who saw it online after the protests began, described it as an amateur, poorly made home video with unclear message.
The Earthquake
According to the US Geological Service, the most recent *significant* earthquake in the United States came on September 7, which was a small 3.4 magnitude tremor in Beverly Hills, California. No damage was reported from this quake. You can peruse all earthquakes here, and you’ll see that nothing in the U.S. on September 18 resembles the quake as represented in this story.
It should also be noted that as of this writing, no public screenings of the film are known.
Bottom Line
There is no evidence that this event ever occurred.

Allah is the mightiest and the most gracious. It hardly matters for the Muslims whether anything like earthquake occurred in the US or not. We know ISLAM is the ultimate truth. But these culprits must be punished and HE’ll punish all these kaffirs. Inshallah all the kaffirs will be erased.it is my guarantee that wherever Islam and Quran-e-pak will be insulted atany place, it’ll face destruction. Aameen.

The story of the cinema is not the point of contention but the deplorable and abominable attitude and hate speech against Islam and its messenger is. I was astounded to read that after a trial was run by one of the characters of the film to put the video off you tube, as her life was threatened and she was cheated into the video, however the Californian higher courts ruled it out and dismissed the case. After such an act, how can obama as the President of US claim that his government as nothing to do with the video. Prophets and messengers dignitaries of all religions and civilizations are equally sacred, lets not forget this.the west has shown itself to uncivilized by seconding this act under the garb of freedom of speech. Was the topless pictures of the princess of UK an act of freedom of speech? What about anti antisemitism and Holocaust?

It does not matter whether earthquake happened or not. the fact is that some of the people make fun of the Islamic Values in such a way that the invoke anger and hatered towards them and there community. the director of the movie has to stay in house arrest under false identity fearing for death for rest of his life.
