Reprisal attacks with machetes and sticks by Christian youths in Kaduna have followed the suicide bombing that took place Sunday morning at St. Rita Catholic Church in Ungwar Yero, Malali area of Kaduna metropolis.
Mobs were seen on the streets targeting people believed to be Muslims in the neighbourhood of the church.
A rescue vehicle was also attacked in the violence after the bombing.
A spokesman for National Emergency Management Agency, Yushau Shuaib said: “A number of casualties have been evacuated to hospitals. The incident was suspected to be triggered by a suicide bomber in a car.”
This is coming after at least three people, including the suicide bomber were killed, and some injured in the early attack on the church.
The car bomber approached the church gate hoping to quietly drive into the church before exploding the bomb but the security men at the gate refused him entry.
The bomber then reversed his car and rammed it forcefully against the gate of the church, the gate caved in as the bomb exploded injuring several churchgoers.
