False asset declaration charge: Saraki discharged, acquitted
Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has been discharged and acquitted of false asset declaration charge against him.
Danladi Umar, the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) chairman, in the ruling on Wednesday said: “All in all, the prosecution couldn't prove its case. The witness evidence were fraught with incoherence of fact”
Prosecution couldn't prove a prima facie against Saraki, prosecution failed to link the defendant with crime.
Saraki had filed a no case submission on May 26 urging the tribunal to strike out the case for lack of evidence.
Saraki argued that none of the exhibits tendered and no evidence given by the four prosecution witnesses linked him to the alleged offences to warrant him to defend the charges.
