Legislative aides protest non-payment of salaries, Saraki summons NASS management


Senate President Bukola Saraki has summoned the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori and his management team to a meeting over protests on Tuesday by legislative aides due to delayed salaries leading to death of their member.

Leaders of over three thousand legislative aides of federal lawmakers had protested non-payment of salaries and allowances by the National Assembly management which resulted in death of one of their member, Hassan Abiodun, who could not raise N165,000 to pay for his appendicitis operation. The deceased was until his death an aide to Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Honourable Yusuf Lasun,

The aides took their protest to the entrance of the Senate Chamber where they accosted Senate President, Bukola Saraki. The Senate President later mandated his Deputy Chief of Staff, Gbenga Makanjuola to listen to them.

The representative of the Senate President assured the aides that he would write a memo to Saraki that would take care of all their grievances.


The protesting members are seeking constant payment of salaries, removal from Suntrust bank and ability to conduct their elections without interference by the management of the National Assembly.
