Passenger vehicle runs over explosive device in Mandera, 4 killed, 11 injured
A passenger vehicle in Mandera, northeast Kenya, ran over an improvised explosive device on Friday, detonating it and killing four people and wounding 11 others, a government official said.
"There was an incident of an IED involving a public service vehicle, a (Toyota) Landcruiser which was carrying about 15 people and ran over an IED. It exploded, killing four instantly and injured 11," Frederick Shisia, Mandera County Commissioner said.
Mr Shisia added that two chiefs were among the victims of the explosion.
"It is unfortunate that two of my chiefs were in the same vehicle and [one] is dead and the other is in critical condition," he said.
The injured have been admitted in Lafey Sub County Hospital.
