Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela dies after being shot in attempted hijacking
Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela has died in a hijacking on Wednesday evening.
He was shot dead during an attempted hijacking in Tembisa, police have confirmed.
The 29-year-old was reportedly shot in the upper body. He was rushed to hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.
He spent the night fighting for his life in a Johannesburg hospital.
Rhythm City publicist Mpumi Phillips confirmed Masilela’s death.
He added that his aunt also died after receiving news of the actor’s death. The family does not want to release her name at this time.
The actor, who played the role of Sifiso Ngema on the popular e.tv soapie, married former Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema earlier this year.
A car accident sidelined Masilela's professional soccer career several years ago. He had played for Supersport United and Highlands Park, but had to end his career after a car accident. After more than three years of rehabilitation, he carved out a career in TV.
