Thugs beat up Osun commissioner, Bola Ilori, in Ondo

Suspected thugs beat up the Osun State Commissioner for Regional Integration, Hon Bola Ilori, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) zonal meeting of the party’s Committee on restructuring and true federalism that took place in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The incident that occurred at the International Event Centre, The Dome marked the end of the programme meant to take position of Ondo, Osun and Ekiti States on the lingering issues of restructuring and true federalism.

It was like a drama when the suspected thugs descended on Ilori who was one of the delegates from Osun State, tore his clothe and beat him black and blue before security agencies came to his aid.

Ilori and the leader of Osun State delegates led by Chief Adedeji Gbadegesin had made presentations on behalf of the state and was about to grant interview to the media when some suspected thugs came and told him to vacate the venue as the event was an APC’s event.

The suspected thugs had said while beating Ilori ”you cannot come here, you are not an APC member” “You are an Alliance for Democracy (AD) member”  “You worked against Aketi and you want to go the Senate now” “Even Tinubu has no chance again in Ondo State”

Ilori, though an indigene of Ondo State had served as the Special Adviser to Governor Aregbesola of Osun State on environment and Sanitation, and currently serving as the commissioner for Regional Integration in the state.

Ilori, a close ally of the former Lagos State Governor and national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu worked against the State Governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN during the governorship election that produced him (Akeredolu).

Ilori he supported the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Olusola Oke, who was alleged to be the preferred candidate of both Tinubu and Aregbesola. In fact, he was the Director General of Oke’s Campaign Organisation.

The suspected thugs tore his white shirt and singlet and pounced on him. He had to run back inside the hall to escape being lynched by the thugs who were becoming more aggressive.

Immediately he entered the hall, Ilori went to the top table and accused the Secretary to Ondo State Governor, Mr Ifedayo Abegunde of being behind the attack on him.

The delegates from the Osun state on hearing about the beating of Ilori went outside in order to confront the thugs.  There was exchange of fisticuffs between the delegates from Osun and Ondo States leaving some people injured in the process.

However, the Commissioner for Information in Ondo State, Mr Yemi Olowolabi said Ilori and the Osun State’s delegates were the aggressors as they came prepared to cause crisis at the venue of the event.

Olowolabi said “These people (Osun) came prepared with charms, ammunition, cudgels and Oranmiyan flags. It was supposed to be an APC’s event, why would they come with charms and Oranmiyan’s flags? They have come here to foment trouble.

“They came for trouble, if we had retaliated, there would have been bloodshed. We remain calm despite the unwarranted provocation. Bola Ilori did not speak for Osun. I advise Ilori to eschew violence and let peace reign. What happened today was avoidable if he (Ilori) had not seized the microphone”
