FG confirms 3 Monkey Pox cases in Bayelsa State
Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Monday confirmed three cases of Monkey Pox disease in Bayelsa State after receiving laboratory results of 19 suspected cases from the WHO Regional Laboratory in Dakar, Senegal.
Adewole who made this known while addressing newsmen in Abuja, noted that the 12 suspected cases from Bayelsa State and the four suspected cases from Lagos state were negative.
He said: “We have received laboratory confirmation for Monkey pox virus for three out of the 21 samples sent to Dakar, Senegal.
“Monkey pox is largely a self-limiting disease, from which all suspected patients have been largely reported to date aredoing well clinically.
“Nigerians are advised to remain calm and supportive of public health authorities. They should also avoid self-medication.
