PHOTOS: Villagers push vehicles across Donga river in Taraba due to bad transport system
This is the moment residents push vehicles across river Donga, which the Nigerian government plans to use for 3,050-MW Hydro project.
The federal government recently approved the contract for the construction of the 3,050-MW Mambilla (or Mambila) hydropower plant, with a total cost of $5.792 billion.
The river arises from the Mambilla Plateau in Eastern Nigeria. It forms part of the international border between Nigeria and Cameroon, and flows northwest to eventually merge with the Benue River in Nigeria.
Journalist Sumner Shagari Sambo shared the pictures on Facebook with the caption: "This is the transportation system on the Mambilla Plateau in Taraba State. Local ferry boats across river Donga. The river that will be used for the FG 3000MW Hydro project. If the neglect continues, one day the people will demand self governance."
