‘No tithe, no heaven’ comment: Pastor Adeboye replies critics

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has replied those criticising his comment that 'anyone who is not paying his tithe is not going to heaven'.

Speaking to pastors during a convention, pastor Adeboye said: "Some of you quote Matthew 23:23 as your excuse for not paying your tithes. Let me read it to you.

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone."

"What does that mean... Pay your tithes, consider weightier matters of law, judgment and mercy. Do both. I'm going to give everyone of you pastors an opportunity to repent tonight and then you go back immediately after this convention and restitute your ways with you congregation. Make it clear to them. Anyone who is not paying his tithe is not going to heaven. Full stop.”

In what appears to be a reaction to the backlash trailing the message, the man of God said:

"If a pastor tells you something and you don't believe it's 100% truth don't wait for someone to discredit him or her, just ask the same holy spirit that is in them to show you all truth," Pastor Adeboye wrote on his verified Twitter page.
